The idea of melee attacks being blocked has completely changed
and it doesn't happen by default any more.
This skill allows people not dual wielding that have either a 2H weapon
or a "worn as shield" slot item to block strikes. Mobs can block
with bare hands but builders must configure mobs to use that
skill.
This is a STR-based skill (more strength = better), and the
sword-and-board style (1h weapon + shield slot) will have even
more success.
If a strike were to hit you, it will check against the block
chance. If you block, you take no damage. Unlike parry,
you CAN block mob bare-handed attacks.
You can RIPOSTE off of blocked shots, even against mob bare-handed
attacks
While you won't take any damage (or maybe a TINY bit of damage)
when you block, equipment may still be damaged.
For 2-handers, you have a base chance to block of 4% plus 1% for every 10
points of strength over 50.
For 1-hander and shield builds:
Your base chance to block is 24%
You gain 1% for every 10 points of strength over 50.
You lose 6% for every secondary attack item you have.
Your block chance extends to guns where you can block entire shots.
Your block chance extends to direct damage spells where you can
reduce damage by 50%.
For both archetypes, if you're not awake or motionless (paralyzed, stunned),
you won't be able to block. Being less-than-standing can also reduce your
chance to block attacks, spells and guns/bows.
