Requirements: Sustained Breath to travel to the entry, the blessed by Hades quest and three items if you wish to travel to the Palace of Hades - you can gather the items before you travel into Tartarus.
Tartarus is located in ancient and is classified as an area for group of level 50s. The size of the group will depend on your goals as some encounters are optional. Thanatos is the hardest one to kill within Tartarus and will require the most investment of resources.
Tartarus is broken into 3 distinct parts:
#####Before Erebus
To access the area before Erebus, you will need permission from Hades (this is no longer necessary)
To access Erebus, after dropping down from the Titan Coeus, DRINK POOL this is an implied object that is not visible in the room, this will grant you the strength of a Titan. Now move north, and GET BOULDER, THROW BOULDER EAST and repeat until you break down the wall to the east.
Now move east, east, east, south, west which should get you to 'The Fields of Punishment' and a prisoner, OPEN IRON will free him, GET FETTERS, now move east, north, north, east, north, east and SMELL this will open a wall to the east.
Move east, east, south killing cyclops in the nearby rooms, and finally one more east to kill Campe.
When he is dead, PULL WHEEL to free the prisoner who tells you the key to Erebus is inside the rod Campe had.
GET ROD CORPSE, OPEN ROD, GET KEY ROD, DROP ROD
When you head back west, go two north, GET FLUTE if you want to do the ...is a friend of the greatest of the poets quest.
From that room to return to 'A Crossroads within the Sulphurous Caves' go S,W,W,S,W,W,W
Now you want to head towards the gates to Erebus, so move N,W,S,W,N
West of here is 'Near a Hill, in the middle of the fields' where you can get the key to Hades if you plan to visit the palace.
You need to have the ...carries the blessing of the king of the dead whois,
ASK DANAID PALACE, if you have the whois it will ask you to return with three items in exchange for the key.
GIVE SEXTANT DANAID, GIVE WOODEN DANAID, GIVE CHARCOAL DANAID and you will receive the key.
From here, you can go two east and south to 'Towards the Elysian Fields' to play the flute for quest mentioned earlier.
Next you fight Megaera, shes three north from the room you play the flute.
Once she is dead UNLOCK NORTH, OPEN NORTH and you have now made it to Erebus.
#####Erebus
Erebus is quite a straight forward layout, when you move north from the gates the first intersection you come to will have exits to the east and west, these are 'The House of Day' which has Hemera (cloak of day) to the east, and 'The House of Night' which has Nyx (cloak of night) to the west depending on the time of day is which mob will be available.
Ensure you are clear on 'mighty hecatoncheires' before moving north to the next intersection, shoot to clear on these mobs in the surrounding areas before moving. North from here is 'House of the Hecatoncheires' which you will need if you kill Thanatos.
East from this next intersection and south is 'An Empty Plaza' which contains the Altar of Zeus which you will also need to be aware of if you kill Thanatos, and the next east will take you to another intersection.
North east of this intersection is Hypnos.
East of this intersection is Thanatos if you kill him you will be imprisoned by Zeus one of the other members of your party should get the 'essence of death' that he drops in the room 'House of the Hecatoncheires' which is north off the first intersection and go to 'An Empty Plaza' and *PUT ESSENCE ALTAR
Now return to the first first intersection, move west, two north from there is Tisiphone who you need to kill to leave Tartarus (if you proceed on to Hades' Palace she will actually move to a room up there), south and up will take you to Hades' Palace.
Or you can move west to the two giant Aloads (these are just good xp), and keep following the path clearing snakes until you reach Alecto.
Kill Alecto, GET KEY CORPSE, UNLOCK SOUTH, OPEN SOUTH and south will take you to 'The Serpent Vault' where you can fight a mass of snakes and complete the whois ...has the balance and speed of a striking snake!
At this point you can either go and kill Tisiphone and SIT THRONE to leave this area, OR you can head to Hade's Palace if you have the key detailed earlier by heading south, up, east, UNLOCK EAST, OPEN EAST (if you have not yet killed Tisiphone this is when she will move)
#####Hades' Palace
There is really not that much to the palace itself, you basically have a hallway leading east.
Two east and north is a room with a basin, this is for the "golden thunderbolt" item quest detailed below, or you can head three east to the end of the hall where you will fight Tisiphone if it is not already dead and then north to Persephone where you can spend the 'pale coin' you have hopefully been gathering. BUY KEY if you want to do the whois ...freed a Titan from his imprisonment in Tartarus!
If you need the 'golden thunderbolt' return to the basin of water.
Drinking it will permanently remove 10 mind for the duration of the quest
Go south, east, north to Persephone.
ASK PERSEPHONE CURSE
She will ask you to speaks to the following before returning to her:
Once you return to her, you will get back the 10 mind you lost and also receive a golden thunderbolt.
#####Leaving Tartarus
Go to 'Between the Adamantine Pillars' and SIT THRONE, this unlocks the door to your north, go north and wait for the river to move you and you can essentially follow the path back out. When you get to the poet remember what his lover told you if you are doing that quest. And if you are freeing a titan remember to return to the start of the area and do that.
And thats all there is to it.
