####How Deaths Work
There are various ways to die on Legend, but generally speaking, when your hit points (HP) reach 0, your character will die, and you will be brought back to the log-in screen. You will need to press 1 to re-enter the game. You will be brought back to your last recall point. This is usually the last place you RENTed at or if you recently transed between eras, where the quest set your recall point. You can also change your recall point without renting by typing RENT SET at an inn. Also, there are some spots in the game that will change your recall point by walking through a room, but these are generally areas designed for higher level characters. So if you're not sure where you are, this might be why.
There are various things in Legend that can kill you. Some examples are: being killed by a mob, drowning, poisoned, subject to acid burn, bleeding, and some rooms are death-traps that kill you instantly. This is not an exhaustive list.
If you are below level 50, you are not penalized for your death with an immediate XP loss, but for a while afterward, you will gain XP at a reduced rate. The duration of the death penalty timer is determined by your level, and it will go away either once the timer has expired, or once you level. If you want to see how much time is left on the death penalty timer, you can see it by either checking STATUS or use the TIMER command.
Once you reach level 50, each death will cost you XP.
####Where to Find Your Stuff
When you die, generally your corpse and all your belongings are left where you died. (There are a few exceptions to this, but again these are generally in areas designed for higher-level characters.) Lights, boats and soul-bound items will stay with you when you die.
If you died to a mob, and the mob didn't start the fight, it is usually safe to just go back to the room where you died and get your belongings from your corpse. The easiest way to do this is GET ALL CORPSE. If there is another corpse in the room you can use #.corpse (e.g. GET ALL 2.CORPSE) or use your player-name (e.g. GET ALL FLORRIE).
If the mob you died to is aggressive, as in, it started fighting when you walked in the room, things get a little trickier. If it's near your own level, you can try to "ninja" (a term you will often see used to describe when a player tries to walk into the room, grab their stuff, and leave before the mob can kill them. Often done using delimiters (see HELP DELIMITER)). However, if the mob is such a higher level than you that they can kill you almost instantly, then this will not work.
####I Can Not Get to My Corpse
At this point, you have a couple of choices for getting your equipment back. The first is to use CHAT for help. If you ask politely on chat for someone to help with a corpse recovery (CR), you will very likely find someone to help you. Then once the mob is dead, you can go ahead and get your stuff. You might even get some XP out of it, and make a friend along the way.
Another option is the resurrection spell. There are a couple of ways to do this. The first is to again ask on chat if there is a mage available to resurrect you. If there is, they will most likely ask you to meet them at the Agrabah Inn. In order to be resurrected by a mage, you need to first, have a blue crystal. You can obtain one from Douban in Agrabah, simply ASK DOUBAN RESURRECTION, he will charge you for this item, but it will be based on your level. At lower levels, it is quite affordable, by the time you reach level 50, it is twenty thousand coins. Once you have a blue crystal, go to the inn in Agrabah and meet the friendly mage (they may even help you with obtaining the crystal if you ask them nicely). In order for the mage to cast the spell on you, you must be grouped with them, so they will probably ask you to follow them. Once they cast the spell on you, you will suffer from resurrection sickness for a period of time. This affects your stats, and you will have to wait for it to wear off. You can check STATUS to see how long is left on resurrection sickness. The spell will cause all the corpses you've left strewn across the world, that have items in them, to be brought to you, and you will be able to get your items.
There is another way a mage can resurrect you using a death shroud. If you have a death shroud, and the mage casts resurrection on your corpse, it will bring you to your corpse. But you still have to be grouped with the mage, so unless you were already grouped with a mage, it is unlikely that this method will be used, especially at lower levels. Death shrouds also cost quite a bit, and it is not based on your level. Douban also sells death shrouds, through the usual shop commands (LIST, PREVIEW, and BUY)
Finally, if no one is around that is able to help, you have the option of using the mob in-game that will perform resurrections for you. Caveat... _the mob can fail_, and you will have to purchase another blue crystal and try again. The mob, Belet-Seri, is located near Industrial Paris. ASK BELET RESURRECTION and she will automatically remove the coins from your bank account and give you a blue crystal. Belet-Seri charges the same amount as Douban for the blue crystals. You must then ASK BELET READY and she will transport you to another room, along with your corpses. If no corpse appears, it is likely that she failed, and you must try again. There is also a rare case where a mob "eats" your corpse, and your items get left on the ground. In this instance, there is no corpse to resurrect and a CR must be done. The moral of that story is, don't die to white tigers.
Just like a player-cast resurrection spell, Belet-Seri's will give you resurrection sickness. You will see this on your STATUS.
Once you are done getting all your items from your corpse (and be sure your corpse is empty!! For returning to this room would require another blue crystal), you may WORSHIP to exit the room and be transported back to Belet-Seri, where you can then continue your adventures.
####What are Death Traps?
Most muds have some form of death-trap, so this may not be a new concept to you. However, Legend has some unique features when it comes to death traps. Most death traps work as expected, they kill you instantly on entrance. However, some death traps, will not kill you if the correct conditions are met. Some examples might be, if you are flying, or are on, or have completed, a quest. Death traps will also give you a death penalty timer if you are below level 50. At level 50, death traps will result in an XP penalty of up to 1.5 million XP.
If you do find yourself having fallen victim to a death trap, then not all is lost. You can still regain your equipment by getting a resurrection spell cast on you.
####How to Avoid Death Traps
One of the unique features of death traps on Legend, is the unique way in which you can avoid them. All death traps are able to be seen, even at night, if you check EXITS. By typing EXIT in each room before you move, it will show you a list of the surrounding rooms, with a little bit of additional information about it (i.e. the room name). If the **ROOMNAME** is in all caps and surrounded by asterisks then it is a true death trap. If the ROOMNAME is just in all caps, then it is a dangerous room, but not necessarily a death trap. That does not mean the room will not kill you. What it means is that given the right set of circumstances, entering the room won't kill you. Also, there can be dangerous rooms that aren't labeled in this way. An example is a room with an aggressive mob, or a room that allows you to fall through to another room. In such a circumstance, you may survive the fall, or you may take so much damage that you die.
