###What hometown and stat order do I pick?

###Topics

One of the great things about Legend is the variability in character design. Your hometown and stat order are the first choices along the road to creating your character, they both will determine what skills you can learn.

####Hometowns

At character creation, you are asked to pick which hometown you are from. This, along with your stats, will determine which skills you will learn, as well as in some instances give you small bonuses to certain skills.

There are six hometowns in Legend in three different eras, they are:

  • Ancient Hometowns
    • Arabia of the Arabian Nights
    • Celtic Ireland
  • Medieval Hometowns
    • Kleinstadt, Germany
    • Viceroyal Lima
  • Industrial Hometowns
    • Port of London
    • Gold Rush San Francisco

Generally speaking, players beginning in more ancient/legendary areas will have greater access to magical talents, with those beginning in a legendary era being most favored with magical abilities. Areas where the people lived close to nature are likely to produce good healers and herbalists. People born in industrial times are best suited to the use of technologically advanced weapons, like guns, and skills, like surgery.

This means that if you want to be a great warrior, you probably want to choose Kleinstadt as your hometown. Gunfighter or surgeons can come from London, or San Francisco. Druidic healers come from Celtic Ireland, and mages from Agrabah. Lima is a jack-of-all-trades hometown. They are able to learn some druidic, some surgeon and some gun skills. They do not excel at any of the skills, but can make great hybrid characters.

####Stat Order

Stat order, just like it sounds, determines the order of your stats. Unlike other muds, you don't get to choose the value of your stats, but you can choose which stat is highest, second highest, etc. After creation, your stats will be rolled randomly and will fall within set ranges. You won't be able to see the numeric value of your stats until you reach level 5, at which point the highest value stat will be revealed. Then, one stat will be revealed with each level, until by level 10 you can see all your stats. Don't worry if your stats aren't all you hoped they would be. Your base stats that you roll at creation are just the starting point. You can alter your stats with equipment to get the requirements for the skills you want. Also, eventually you will be able to do special quests that will increase your base stats.

####Character Builds

Because these can be somewhat complicated choices to make when you don't yet know the system, we've put together some recommended starter character builds. This is by no means an exhaustive list of what is possible, but some basic starting points to help you have a playable starting character.
