#The Absolute Basics
######(Help! I've never played a mud before!)
Congratulations! You're about to enjoy the adventure.
If you've never played a mud before, Legendmud.org has a great starting page. It walks you through the basics of starting a character and some initial information about how to get around in the game.
The first thing you might want to do once you've successfully created a character and entered the game is type 'screenlen 0' (without the ' ) and hit return. This will stop you from having to press enter to continue once the screen fills up. Instead, it will scroll, and if you miss something you might have to scroll back to see it.
LegendMUD also has an extensive help system.
When in the game, type 'help faq' and press enter. It will bring up a lot of information for you to read to help you get started. Another help topic worth reading is 'help newbie'.
And when you get lost, don't be afraid to ask questions. To talk to other players anywhere in the game, type 'chat <message>'. For example, 'chat hi! I'm new!' will send this message out to all the players logged into the game. Most of us are super friendly and happy to answer any questions you may have.
If you type 'who', you will get a list of all the players and immortals currently in the game, and visible. (If you are in the dark, or have a blindness affect, you will only see yourself on the list.) If you see a name with [NPH] after their name, they are players who are letting people know they like to help new people. You can ask them to help you using the 'chat' channel, or send them a private message by typing 'tell <playername> <your message>'. For example, 'tell florrie hi!', would send a message to Florrie saying hi. This of course, only works if she is online. One thing to note, if you get a message 'Someone tells you....' this is a message from an invisible immortal. If it says 'Somebody tells you...' this is a message from a player you cannot see (either they are invisible, hiding, or you are in the dark).
