Runecaster Build Guide

WARNING! VERY much a work in progress by Sabrine, updates by Yahnni, this will be added to over the next few weeks while I work things out

Hometown: Kleinstadt only
Stats: 68 Perception, 72 Spirit, 30 Mind, and then you need to decide on your build. (Minimum 50/50 per/spi to cast)
Note: Peak efficiency for runecasters does not require 100/100 stats, around 80 in perception/spirit while under the effects of prophesy will achieve the best results already, additional stat points would only be beneficial outside of prophesy. 68+72=140 up the total to 150 for merkstave effectiveness, add 4 runecraft charms for even more merkstave effectiveness

A runecaster is a buff/debuff class, as well as a crafter of some specialised charms, and can be combined into other classes.
You acquire runes which you can then use RUNELORE LEARN (rune name) to learn at the cost of 1 practice per rune, any further runes of that type that you have can be used to cast spells, or used as part of a crafted charm. Can learn from small runes (bought or dropped by mobs) or from enchanted runes (created by a runecrafter who knows that rune from purchased items)

Runes are a consumable item which decay every time that you use them, but the more runes that you learn the longer your runes will last and the less likely you are to fail runecasts.
You can create your own runes which will also last longer, and carry around polished stones to create new copies of runes that you have learned in emergencies. But the more runes you learn the fewer copies of the runes you will need to carry with you at any given time. If you have learned only a few runes to save on practices to achieve another class you should expect to carry more copies of your runes.
All runes cost 75 rent each, but differnt types/materials will vary runecraft charm rent.

Runecasters who have trained RUNECAST to its second level have several damage over time style spells at their disposal (Uruz, Kenaz, Perthro) as well as a high damage attack against unaware opponents (Algiz).

When deciding your build you could opt to forego some skills or runes in order to free up more stats to build into other classes, this will be entirely down to your preference, but make sure to understand the consequences mentioned above.

#####Teachers:

Runelore (req:lvl 2, 25min 40per 40spi)- burly stonecutter - Medieval Kleinstadt

#####Runecast
Runecast allows you to cast a defensive buff by RUNECAST (rune name) and if you train it to the second level you can cast an offensive debuff by RUNECAST MERKSTAVE (rune name) (target name)

#####Runecraft
Runecraft allows you to create your own runes based on runes you already know, these come in two types.
If you want a stronger rune for yourself to use for casting purposes, you create a polished rune by RUNECRAFT (rune name) POLISHED (requires a polished stone from the wrinkled lady in Norway)
If you want a rune which other runecasters can learn from, you create an enchanted rune by RUNECRAFT (rune name) ENCHANTED (requires an enchanted stone, created by the Enchanting tradeskill, which in turn requires a smooth stone and drop of yew sap to create)

If you train runecraft to the second level you can also manufacture charms which are worn as wrist or neck items, these can include up to 5 runes at 50th level.
Runes dropped by mobs or purchased runes from vendors can be used to craft runes but the more runes you string together, charms will
require at least some of the runes be crafted, enchanted runes:

Runes Runes that must be enchanted
1 0
2-3 1
4-5 2

There are some things of which to take note:

  • The Thurisaz (AC) rune may only be included once
  • Runes by default have -5 AC. Thurisaz can bring this up to -8
  • Runes that provide a specific effect (like sneak, or detect invisible) may be included more than once, but the effect will only appear
    once on the item
  • The charms can be worn in either the WRIST or the NECK slot
  • The resultant charm is magical and can be repaired with trueform

Runecrafting charms can fail. You stand the best chance with a high level, a high spirit and perception, and maintaining prophesy when crafting.

#####Focus
The focus skill allows you to select one of the Aetts of runes (think of these like the circles of magic if you need to), when focussed all runecasts in that Aett cost less mana and are more powerful. While you are focusing your ranged weapons will be less effective and your total damage output will be decreased. You can select an Aett by using FOCUS (Aett name) which also lets you switch to another Aett as an overwrite, or you can use FOCUS STOP to stop focussing on any Aett.

#####Prophesy
The prophesy skill allows you to cast runes faster, which last longer and their effects are stronger.
If you have any mana reduction items equipped they will also take effect while Prophesy is enabled.
However, your melee abilities will be weakened and you will be unable to use BASTION or DEADLY PRECISION.
You can enable and disable the skill by using PROPHESY, and it will last for four hours or until disabled.
